Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Wednesday hit back at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, asking him to tender an unconditional apology to the prime minister, former army chief and the masses for leveling baseless allegations. Speaking at a news conference, PML-N leader Danyal Aziz said that Imran Khan had levelled baseless allegation that prime minister tried to gift a BMW to a former army chief, which according to him, is baseless and unfounded.
"This is very unfortunate that Imran Khan, instead of accepting his party's defeat in NA122 by-elections, has resorted to leveling baseless allegations against the institutions that are unfounded," Aziz said, adding that the PTI chief should also apologize to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the judiciary for the allegations that had been proved false time and again. Earlier in the day, Imran Khan alleged that a BMW car was parked outside a former army chief's residence. However, its keys were returned by the then CoAS, he added.
Danyal Aziz, however, alleged the PTI chief misled the masses and his own party workers through "baseless allegations" on the institutions. He also demanded of Imran Khan to resign as the party chief by accepting that he failed to deliver especially in the recent by-elections in Punjab. He said that the ECP accepted all the demands of PTI to ensure transparent by-elections and also deployed army personnel and installed CCTV cameras. But after losing the by-election, Aziz added, the PTI chief again blamed the ECP which is unfortunate and inappropriate.
He regretted that PTI leadership was targeting national institutions for the sake of petty politics. Referring to the PTI's objection on Prime Minister's press conference a day earlier the Sunday by-election in Lahore, the PML-N leader said that the press conference was not Lahore specific rather the Prime Minister highlighted the challenges being faced by the country and his government vision to steer the country out of these crises.
"If he considered the Prime Minister's press conference as violation of the election codes of conducts, then let me also say that Imran Khan and his wife also tweeted on the election day asking the people to vote for PTI...it should also come under the violation of the election codes," he added.
He also alleged that PTI's candidate Aleem Khan, who lost the by-election to PML-N Ayaz Sadiq from NA122, had been facing cases of the FIA and he had returned billion of rupees under some understanding. Danyal Aziz also rejected Imran Khan's arguments about the country's economy and maintained that currently inflation rate was at the lowest which is for the first time in the country's history. He also advised the PTI chief to stop the politics of "blame-game" and play a constructive role in nation building through a positive politics.
