Chief Minister's Special Assistant on Livestock Muhammad Arshad Jutt has disclosed that the government is setting up a University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Bahawalpur at Rs 2.5 billion, aimed at imparting veterinary and animal sciences education to the youth in the Southern Punjab in their own area.
"This is one of the many steps being taken by the present Punjab government for the development of livestock and welfare of people associated with this sector, Arshad Jutt said while chairing a meeting convened to review the pace of work in the university's Bahawalpur campus," he told a meeting also attended by the livestock additional secretary and officers of different departments concerned.
The meeting was told that up to Rs 264 million had been spent on this project and another Rs 700 million for the current financial year. He also directed officers to maintain quality in development and construction work, but warned that no leniency would be tolerated. The meeting then reviewed the project of restructuring of breeding services throughout the province and about up to Rs 662 million to be spent on the project to be completed during the current financial year.
