The prices of essential kitchen items especially vegetables have witnessed a sharp increase during past week as compared to preceding week, reveals a survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Saturday. The survey observed that the prices of tomatoes witnessed an increase of Rs 20 per 5 kg from Rs 220 per 5 kg to Rs 240 per 5 kg at wholesale market, while in retail market the commodity is being sold at Rs 55 per kg against Rs 50 per kg.
Spinach price increased by Rs 15 per kg from Rs 25 per kg to Rs 40 per kg, Tinda price went up by Rs 10 per kg from Rs 40 per kg to Rs 50 per kg and Shimla Mirch price increased by Rs 20 per kg from Rs 120 per kg to Rs 140 per kg. Okra price also went up by Rs 10 per kg from Rs 45 per kg to Rs 55 per kg and Karela prices also increased by Rs 5 per kg from Rs 50 per kg to Rs 55 per kg.
However, potato price reduced by Rs 30 per 5 kg from Rs 150 per 5 kg to Rs 120 per 5 kg in wholesales market, which in retail market is sold at Rs 30 per kg against Rs 45 per kg. Onions price also went up by Rs 30 per 5 kg from Rs 250 per 5 kg to Rs 280 per 5 kg, which in retail market are available at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 50 per kg. Shan Foods Limited have increased the rates of entire range of sachet pack spices from Rs 20 per sachet pack to Rs 25 per pack, while there is no change in family size or large size packs of spices.
Wheat-flour price went up by Rs 15-25 per 20 kg bag, normal quality wheat flour price increased from Rs 760 per 20 kg bag to Rs 775 per bag and fine quality went up by Rs 25 per 20 kg bag from Rs 775 to Rs 800 per bag. Tori, arvi, kaddu and maro kaddu prices remained unchanged at Rs 50 per kg, while new arrival carrot is being sold at Rs 100 per kg which is all time record high. Ginger and garlic price witnessed an increase of Rs 50 per kg and are being sold at Rs 200 per kg against Rs 150 per kg a week ago.
Green Chilli price witnessed an increase of Rs 40 per kg from Rs 60 per kg 100 per kg, while lemon price went up by Rs 30 per kg from Rs 120 per kg to Rs 150 per kg. Cauliflower price increased by Rs 100 per 5 kg in wholesale market from Rs 300 per 5 kg to Rs 400 per 5 kg and in retail market it is being sold at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 50 per kg. Peas price increased by Rs 280 per 5 kg in wholesales market from Rs 420 per 5 kg to Rs 700 per 5 kg which in retail market is being sold at Rs 175 per kg against Rs 120 per kg, Brinjal price also went up by Rs 50 per 5 kg in wholesales market from Rs 200 per 5 kg to Rs 250 per 5 kg which in retail market is being sold at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 40 per, bean price went by Rs 100 per 5 kg in wholesales market from Rs 300 per 5 kg to Rs 400 per 5 kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 70 per kg.
While there is no change in the prices of different spices, pulses, fresh and packed milk, different brands of rice, eggs, tea, ghee and other items. Beef is being sold at Rs 420 per kg, mutton being sold at Rs 700 per kg. Live chicken price reduced by Rs 1,200 per 40 kg in wholesales market from Rs 4,800 per 40 kg to Rs 3,600 per kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 90-120 per kg while chicken meat price also reduced is being sold Rs 200 per kg against Rs 270 per kg.
Guava is being sold at Rs 60 per kg, fresh arrived apples are available in the range of Rs 50 per kg to Rs 150 per kg, Chonsa mango price went up by Rs 10 per kg from Rs 140 per kg to Rs 150 per kg, while other quality mangoes are being sold at Rs 80-120 per kg, good quality grapes are available at Rs 300 per kg while normal quality at Rs 100-150 per kg, different qualities of local banana are being sold in the range of Rs 60 to Rs 100 per dozen, while Indian banana is available at Rs 150 per dozen.
