The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday granted former prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani a seven-day protective bail in a case registered against him by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for his alleged involvement in mega Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) scandal. Gilani's counsel argued before the court that his client is being politically victimised. Twenty one cases were prepared against him under the same allegation that is mala fide. IHC bench granted protective bail to Gilani in the 9th case against a Rs100,000 surety bonds.
Naek further argued that there were some new cases to be framed against his client. And that he may be provided with relief in these cases as well. The bench asked how it can provide any relief to him if cases are yet to be registered. Talking to reporters after the court proceedings, Gilani said the federal government has adopted a discriminatory attitude towards PPP and is busy in character assassination of its leadership. He claimed that some five to six more 'fabricated' cases are also being prepared against him.
