The Karachi Port handled 318,656 tonnes of cargo comprising 227,467 tonnes of import cargo and 91,189 tonnes of export cargo including 7,026 loaded and empty containers during the last 48 hours ending at 0700 hours on Monday.
The total import cargo of 227,467 tonnes comprised of 64,770 tonnes of containerised cargo; 32,729 tonnes of general cargo; 87,077 tonnes of bulk cargo: 47,407 tonnes of coal; 11,537 tonnes of DAP; 11,930 tonnes of rock phosphate; 3,106 tonnes of palm kernel; 13,097 tonnes of SB meal and 42,891 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 91,189 tonnes comprised of 60,021 tonnes of containerised cargo and 31,168 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
As many as 7,026 containers comprising of 3,433 containers import and 3,593 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 1,086 of 20's and 1,083 of 40's loaded while 41 of 20's and 70 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 760 of 20's and 582 of 40's loaded containers while 435 of 20's and 617 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were twelve ships namely YM Enlightenment, Cosco Kobe, Al Farahidi, Bofors, New York Star, DL Clover, Impros, Shrif Pioneer, Osam Jumbo-5, Stolt Viking, Shan Dong Hai and Ru Yi Song carrying containers, oil tanker, coal, chemical and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were ten vessels viz. Express Padma, Hanjin Indigo, Wieland, DL Clover, Agros, MT Lahore, Maersk Mizushima, Nord Setouchi, Positive Passion and Thor Infinity carrying containers, oil tankers, coal and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There were four ships namely Hanjin Indigo, Express Padma, CT Frontier and Lara carrying containers, oil tanker and coal respectively sailed out to sea on Monday, while three ships namely MT Lahore, Amazing and Pacific Dream carrying oil tanker, meal and steel respectively are expected to sail on Tuesday.
There were four vessels viz. AS Calelia, Corvette, Chahat and Margaret SW carrying containers, oil tanker and project cargo respectively due to arrive on Monday, while four vessels viz. ECaptain Costas, Pona, Stolt Focus and MT Karachi carrying containers, and oil tankers respectively are due to arrive on Tuesday.
