The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will display Provisional Electoral Rolls (PERs) in various cities of Punjab and Sindh from Tuesday (July 21). According to a notification, the voters' lists could be inspected in the offices of Registration Officers and respective Assistant Registration Officers of Punjab and Sindh for seven days, (from July 21 to 27).
According to Election Commission, the main aim of display centres was to correct mistakes, register objections in the Electoral Rolls of Punjab and Sindh as Local Government elections in both provinces are scheduled to be held on September 20. The centres have been mandated to enlist the names of the voters, whose names have missed erroneously or otherwise in the voter lists and delete the names of the non-eligible voters.
The ECP has asked the voters of Sindh, Punjab to avail the opportunity as no correction, addition/deletion, transfer etc in the Electoral Rolls would be possible after announcement of election schedule in both the Provinces. Such exercise had already been completed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Cantonment areas and Islamabad Capital Territory. The ECP has also provided the facility to eligible voters to verify their voting details by just sending their Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC) number (without hash or space) to 8300 through Short Messaging Services (SMS).
After sending the message, a sender would receive a message in Urdu, confirming location (electoral area), block code and serial number of the voter in the Electoral Rolls of his area of residence or registration (of his vote). The Election Commission has already included the names of new CNIC holders in the Electoral Rolls and excluded the names of the enlisted voters, who have become disqualified due to death, nationality surrender, cancellation of CNICs etc. ECP has recently included 3.95 million new voters in the Electoral Rolls while 136,530 voters, who have become disqualified due to death, surrender of nationality and cancellation of CNIC, have been excluded from the Electoral Rolls of Punjab. Similarly 1.35 million new CNIC holder voters have been included in the Electoral Rolls and 21,782 voters have been excluded from the Electoral Rolls of Sindh due to death, cancellation of CNIC and nationality.
