The National Highways and Motorway Police have warned against overcharging in public transport fares, with Inspector General Muhammed Saleem Bhatti making it clear that those flouting the rules and regulations will have to return their collected money to passengers.
In an operational meeting at the Babu Sabu Building Complex on Thursday, which also saw Deputy Inspectors General Mirza Faran Baig and Zubair Ashraf Sadique and Senior Siuperintendents Masroor Alam Kalachi, Ather Waheed and Asim Gulzar, Inspector General Bhatti told his officers to promptly respond to stranded road users and hellpline callers. He also told them to watch for wrongdoers.
"On the eve of the Eid-ul-fitr, complete safety and security is being provided to road users. No transporter will be allowed to overcharge passengers and if anyone is overcharged, the motorway police will make it possible to return the overcharged money to a passenger and these vehicles will also be fined with confiscating his or her vehicle," he said. "Banners showing messages of overcharging and overloading may be displayed in prominent places on highways so that passengers can contact through the helpline-130 in case of violation."
