Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday issued notice to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on a petition filed against the suspension of bank accounts of Pakistan Football Federation (PFF). Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat, President and Colonel Ahmadyar Khan (Retd), the General Secretary of the PFF, had filed a petition under Article 199 of the Constitution making Secretary Ministry of Interior, Director General of the FIA and Inspector FIA Rab Nawaz Sial (Commercial Banking Circle) Lahore as respondents.
The FIA had started scrutiny of financial affairs of PFF and in this connection is conducting an inquiry as well. The petition stated that the football federation has its own duly approved constitution and it is being managed and controlled in accordance with the same called as PFF constitution.
The PFF has its own various bank accounts and it is receiving financial support from the Asian Football Confederation, the Federation International de Football Association and other sources. The banks have stopped honouring the cheques since the accounts have been frozen; not only this but the FIA has also asked banks to provide them with the detailed statements of accounts of June 1, 2014-June 30, 2015. The petitioner also claimed that the FIA has no authority to conduct any inquiry as PFF is a private entity, thus prayed for the suspension of the orders placed by the respondents to freeze the bank accounts. Justice Aamir Farooq will take up the case on Thursday (today).
