Former President General Pervez Musharraf (Retd) challenged non-bailable arrest warrants issued by an additional district and session judge in murder case of Lal Masjid cleric Abdul Rashid Ghazi in Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Saturday. On June 19, Judge Kamran Basharat Mufti issued non-bailable warrants against Musharraf while rejecting the plea of exemption from appearance before the court on medical grounds and directed the local police to produce the former military ruler on July 24.
The medical board of Quetta examined former president General Musharraf (Retd) and prescribed that he does not travel due to health issues. The counsel for General Musharraf (Retd) submitted the plea of exemption along with the medical report in a sessions court but even then the judge issued non-bailable arrest warrants. According to police challan submitted to session judge in October 2013, Musharraf was declared innocent. A division bench has been formed comprising Justice Noor ul Haq N. Qureshi and Justice Amir Farooq to take up the case on July 7.
