The Punjab govt has planned to execute 11 on-going and three new schemes during the financial year 2015-16 for which an allocation of Rs 600 million has been made in the budget. Sources in the provincial Fisheries Department told the Business Recorder on Saturday that the vision of the department was to manage and develop aquatic resources. During 2014-15 up to Rs 423.795 million were allocated for 4 on-going and 09 new development schemes.
Up to Rs 353.317 million were released out of which 61% ie Rs 217.021 million have been utilized. Major interventions were established of fish seed rearing farm for production of large size Fish Seed and Biological Diversification in Chashma District Mianwali, Production of Fingerlings of Cultural Fish Species during Winter Season, Mass Motivation Campaign for Promotion of Fisheries/Aquaculture in Punjab, Propagation of Mono-sex Tilapia (Pilot Project), Development of Fisheries in Small Dams of Northern Region, Development of Fisheries in Saline and Brackish Waters of the Southern Zone of Punjab, Feasibility studies for establishment of aquaculture processing zone, Promotion of intensive culture systems of high value fish species and Recreation facilities through establishment of fish aquarium house and angling under PP mode.
