Protecting privacy of the users, YouTube is soon releasing a tool that will notify users when someone steals their videos without permission.

YouTube wrote in its blogpost on Wednesday that it realizes how annoying it can be when someone uploads someone else’s created videos to other channels without their consent. Thus, they are launching a new ‘Copyright Match’ tool that will help find re-uploaded videos of original users on other channels.

The new tool works after a person uploads any video on their channel. The video streaming site will then scan other videos uploaded on the platform to check if any of them are identical or similar. As soon as it finds a match, it will then appear in the ‘matches’ tab in the tool and the original uploader can then decided what action to take next.

YouTube rolls out ‘Incognito Mode’ for Android users

YouTube informed that the original user should be the first one to upload the video as the time of the upload will be used for determining the matches. The tool also works to find entire re-uploads; if any certain clip of the content is uploaded, the user can report it via the copyright webform.

Moreover, as the tool finds a match, the user can choose doing nothing, getting in touch with the person who copied, or request YouTube to remove the video. Requesting YouTube should be with our without a 7-day delay, giving leverage to the uploader to rectify themselves. The requests will also be reviewed by the firm to ensure the videos abide by the YouTube’s copyright policies.

Also, YouTube asked users to check the content before taking any action. They cannot file a complaint of the videos that aren’t exclusive.

YouTube informed that this tool has been in tests with creators for almost a year in order to make it perfectly safe and effective for the entire YouTube community. The tool will start rolling out to creators with over 100k subscribers by next week.
