Firmness prevailed on the local currency market on Saturday as rupee did not show any change versus the dollar in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee depicted no change in terms of the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 100.70 and Rs 100.90 respectively, but it gained 25-paisa against the euro for buying and selling at Rs 122.25 and Rs 122.50 respectively, they said.
OPEN MARKET RATES: At the week-end, the dollar rose against the yen and euro in scant volume, with many major markets still closed after the Christmas holiday. The greenback approached a 7-1/2-year peak against the yen and moved close to a 2-1/2-year high versus the euro based on the view the US economy is expanding at a fast enough clip that the Federal Reserve could consider ending its near-zero interest-rate policy in mid-2015, analysts said.
