Pakistanis in prisons world-over: LHC directs Ministry to submit details by January 16

The Lahore High Court here on Friday directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to submit details of Pakistanis in prisons all over the world by January 16. The court observed that it is the obligation of the government to protect the rights of its citizens. The court sought details of the prisoners from different countries and what so far the government done for their release.
The families of the migrant workers, represented through their counsel Sarah Belal lamenting the lack of support and attention provided by the Pakistan government to their loved ones facing the harshest punishments in the Gulf countries.
She said constitutional duties of the state to uphold the fundamental rights and protect the lives of its citizens were not limited to the geographic boundaries of the country.
