Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has demanded that the federal level parliamentary committee and joint action working committee should also evolve formula for the repatriation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan. Talking to media in Nowshera, he called for immediate guaranteeing of the repatriation of Afghan refugees from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and decision in this regard should be included in the communiqué of the working committee.
He made it clear that the provincial cabinet had given unanimous decision regarding the repatriation of Afghan refugees and now it is the turn of the federal government to guarantee its implementation. Similarly, he said the movement of illegal refugees should immediately be restricted to their camps and arrangements should be made for their repatriation to their native country.
He said that they could not wait for one more year for their return to Afghanistan, as it besides burdening of our economy has also resulted in the increasing of the occurrence of heinous crimes and the more Peshawar like tragedy could also happened. The KP chief minister asked the federal government for bringing change in the framework of the repatriation of Afghan refugees to guarantee their return to their own country as soon as possible. He suggested the federal government for evolving a clear-cut strategy for guaranteeing the security of the people and the country.
Pervez Khattak said that the sacrifice of the innocent schoolchildren of the army-run school should not go in waste, saying the whole nation has become unanimous on single point and now it is the equal responsibility of all to control this menace.
The chief minister also appealed the people to extend full co-operation to the government in the restoration of law and order in the country in general and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in particular and keeping vigil on movement of the people living around them and the information of the suspicious activities should be given on emergency phone numbers with immediate effect to prevent any tragedy.
He said that police and other law-enforcement agencies were making efforts to crush TTP militants. However, without the co-operation of the people the required results could not be achieved, therefore, he said "we all have to fulfill our responsibilities". The chief minister said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has suffered more than other parts of the country and crimes and terrorism have been increased by manifold and one of the big factors is Afghan refugees. Therefore, he said the provincial cabinet has demanded immediate repatriation of the Afghan refugees from Pakistan.
He said that there were two types of Afghan refugees in the province one was legal and other was illegal, whose number is over 2 million. He said that the All Parties' Conference (APC) has also discussed the issue of Afghan refugees in detailed and now it is the responsibility of the federal government to take solid steps in this regard. He advised the federal government to review the foreign policy and its framing while taking national interests into consideration.
He said that the Elite Force of KP Police along with law-enforcement agencies was playing active role in the war against terrorism and rendering sacrifices. He said the problem of Afghan refugees should also be included in the National Action Plan as our province has received huge damage due to them.
