After the second round, M. Shabbir of Islamabad emerged as the most dynamic player of the 4th Quaid-e-Azam Open Golf Championship here at the historic par 72, Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course on Saturday. M. Shabbir is certainly a contender with a dynamic touch and overpowering presence and with a superb round of 68 on the second day and an aggregate of 138, six under par for two days; he has developed a lead of three strokes over his nearest rivals, Safdar Khan (Gujranwala) and Talib Hussain (Islamabad).
Taking off from tee no:1 in the second round, Shabbir birdied hole numbers 3,5,7.8,and 11.These five birdies were supplemented by 12 regulation pars and along the way there was a slight hicup on the 14th hole which he boogied. During the second round, the excellence surfaced consistently and his fans kept following him and enjoyed his power packed hitting and awesome accuracy in shot making. Along the way, there was a mishap too when a tee shot on the 6th hole left his one wood driver cracked and unfit for further use. But he managed and strategised his game in a way that his three woods became the substitute and Shabbir used it to great effect. In the golfing arenas of Pakistan, Shabbir is now the big performer and his tally of success during the past few months include virtually every title our circuit has to offer.
Other notable ones looking fairly good are: M. Tahir, the overnight leader at 144 alongwith Imdad Hussain also at 144.Matloob Ahmed is at 145, followed by Talat Ijaz and Nisar Hussain at 146.Shahid Javed Khan is at a two rounds score of 147. At the two rounds aggregate score of gross 148 are Latif Rafiq, Waheed Baloch, M.Asif, Shahid Hanif and M.Munir. There was a cut after the second round and as a result 48 professional players stood eliminated. Only the best 40 professionals will play on the final day on Sunday.
