The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has cancelled registration of more than 3,000 non-governmental organisations due to their non-functionality and existence only on papers. This was revealed by Adviser to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Social Welfare Meher Taj Roghani while addressing a news conference at Press club.
She said that there were some 4,000 NGOs registered with the provincial governments' social welfare department, however, majority of them were not functional and existed only in papers. She said that there was no proper setup in the past to check out the NGOs working in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as most of them were existed only in papers, she added.
Flanked by PTI provincial spokesperson MNA Ayisha Gulalai, she said scrutiny process was kept tight aimed to thoroughly check their performance and next time registration will be given after stern check and balance, she added. On the occasion, Chairperson, Provincial Commission on Women Status Ms Neelam Toru, Child Protection co-ordinator Ejaz Khan also spoke. The Advisor to CM Ms Roghani said that she was directed by the Commissioners, district development advisory committees and senior officials of allied institutions along with district social welfare officers to regularise the NGOs and closed down all the dysfunctional organisations.
"With this we aim to provide funds to genuine NGOs and welfare trusts after these organisations report to their respective commissioners and inform them about their projects, Ms Roghani claimed. She added that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will also rehabilitate Darul Aman and Darul Kafala, and would also establish new shelter homes where require, while the provincial government has already provided Rs 110Million for the cause.
She also claimed that 40 beds available for thousand of drugs addicted people in Peshawar at government hospitals, adding as 11% of the total population of the province were drug addicts. Besides, in collaboration with some well reputed non-profit organisations and government institutions they were tried to protect drug users from addiction of drugs.
The Adviser further said that Anti Narcotics Force, the law enforcement agencies and heath department has already been directed to take serious action against those violating the social welfare rules. The incumbent provincial government has allocated Rs 500 million for deserving widows and special persons, whereas a Bill was passed from the provincial assembly under the Welfare Foundation Bill, 2014 on January 22, 2014.
Similarly, she informed that four new schools will soon construct in province for special persons while passing policy bill regard special persons in the provincial assembly. "PTI government will also establish a working women hostel in Hayatabad, she pledged.
