Prices of most of the essential food items remain unchanged last week as compared to the preceding week, reveals a survey conducted by Business Recorder on Saturday. The survey noted that majority of perishable and non-perishable food items prices remained stable. However, only intra-city public transport fares have been reduced by 7 percent Rs 2 (single stop) and Rs 3-4 on long distance travel following the recent reduction in petroleum products prices.
The food items, which prices remained stable last week as compared to the preceding week ie, chicken live was being sold at Rs 155-160 per kg, pulse moong washed was being sold at Rs 163 per kg, potatoes were available at Rs 70-75 per kg and onions were being sold at Rs 45-50 per kg, rice basmati broken at Rs 80-90 per kg, sugar at Rs 58-60 per kg, cooking oil tin (2.5 ltr) at Rs 520, vegetable ghee tin 2.5 kg was being sold at Rs 505, vegetable gee loose was being sold at Rs 150-160, eggs were being sold at Rs 115-120 per dozen, different kinds of fish were being available at Rs 280-450 per kg, milk fresh at Rs 95-100 per liter, curd was being sold at Rs 105 per, pulse masoor washed at Rs 148 per kg and pulse mash washed was being sold at Rs 177-180 per kg last week as compared to the preceding week.
During the period under review, tomatoes were being sold at Rs 55-60 per kg, cabbage was being sold at Rs 50-55 per kg, Shimla /Kashmiri mirch at Rs 110 per kg, Brinjal (Baigan) at Rs 45 per kg, green peas at Rs 80-90 per kg, Karela at Rs 70 per kg, okra at Rs 90 per kg, cucumber at Rs 60-70 per kg, garlic at Rs 160-180 per kg and ginger was being sold at Rs 240 per kg last week as compared to the preceding week.
The survey observed that fruit prices almost remain unchanged last week as compared to the preceding week as malta was being sold at 50-70 per dozen, Kinno at Rs 100 per dozen, banana at Rs 80-90 per dozen, apples at Rs 100-120 per kg, grapes at Rs 160-200 per kg and pomegranate at Rs 110-150 per kg last week as compared to the preceding week. Meat prices also remain unchanged as mutton was being sold at Rs 600 -650 per kg, whereas beef at Rs 380 -420 per kg last week as compared to the preceding week.
