A function, in the memory of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said, comprised speeches, poetic tribute, tableau and dua-e-Said, was held on October 16, on the occasion of 16th death anniversary of Hakim Said at a local hotel.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest and president, Small and Medium Enterprises Association (SAMEA) and Defence Residents Society, Karachi, Zafar Iqbal said Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said was a great symbol of national unity as he was the preacher of "Love Pakistan - Build Pakistan" and was against of all types of bigotry and narrow mindedness. Hakim Said established his institutions of health, medicine and education not only in Karachi but in all provinces and his educational institutions were the centers of training and character building, he added.
He lamented that two important personalities of Pakistan, Liaquat Ali Khan and Hakim Said were murdered in 1952 and 1998 on October 16 and 17 respectively, but it was an irony that no murderers of them were caught and punished so far. Liaquat Ali Khan was the first prime minister and Hakim Said was highly educated personality of Pakistan who did masters in pharmacy in Delhi and PhD from Ankara University, Turkey and possessed all qualities that took a man's soul direct to the abode of paradise, he contended.
Hakim Said had great passion for education that's why he was able to grant charters to four universities in a short period of his governorship of Sindh and broke down the ban forever which was imposed in Sindh on the opening of new universities here, he said.
He said that in a function of Defence Residence Society "we gave the title of 'Quaid-e-Naunehal' (Leader of children) to Hakim Said which he accepted with pleasure as he had done great works for the betterment, education and training of the children. He was a philanthropist, medical researcher, physician par excellence, scientist, educationist and writer, who authored near about 200 books on different subjects, he added.
Sadia Rashid, President, Hamdard Foundation Pakistan, while addressing the gathering of children said that Hakim Mohammed Said loved Pakistan with the bottom of his heart and he had dedicated his whole life's earning to the welfare, education and health of the nation. He saw and served his patients devotedly irrespective of their religion, caste, colour and race and never distinguished between rich and poor patient and saw near above 500,000 patient in his life, she added.
She said Hakim Said was a master of time management and always valued time. Being a true and practicing Muslim he never gave way to sectarianism and provincialism and was above of all these absurdness. "Education was his important mission and in compliance of his mission he opened schools, colleges, university and other educational institutions," she said.
Advising the children and youths she said if they would like to make their country and their lives a success story they should make the life of Hakim Said as a model to follow. Child speakers Hafiza Uruba Fatima, Ubaidur Rehman, Shizra Shahid, Mohammed Mustafa, Shah Faisal and Aqsa Idrees also spoke.-PR
