To check smuggling of weapons: vehicles to be scanned at entry and exit points of Karachi: DG Rangers

Sindh Rangers director general, Major-General Bilal Akbar, has said that the Rangers in order to stop smuggling of weapons would soon start scanning all containers and vehicles at all the exit and entry points of the city. Speaking at a meeting of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), he said that the scanning system which has been provided by Interior Ministry would help in curbing the smuggling of weapons.
Claiming that the actions taken by the Rangers in the past born fruits, he assured the business community that the law-enforcing agency would use the latest technology and electronic system to control law and order in the metropolis. He told the businessmen that a survey conducted recently has identified 16 spots where drug addicts were found involved in street crimes.
Claiming that Rangers have arrested a number of people involved in street crimes, he said that most of street crime incidents in the city occurred between 7am and 11am and from7pm to 11pm. At the outset, DG Rangers said that it was because of Rangers action that the rate of crime in the city had been reduced by 35 to 40 per cent. Speaking on the occasion, KATI's patron-in-chief, S.M. Muneer said that the city's law and order situation has improved considerably during the tenure of Rangers' former director general Rizwan Akhtar.
Rangers and police have been doing their best to control the incidents of terrorism, he said, adding that Rangers personnel in their bid to protect citizens have sacrificed their lives. Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan said that anti-terrorists courts should be activated to prosecute and punish criminals. He said that it was strange that about 8004 parliamentarians got protection under the NRO.
Karachi Industrial Alliance's President Mian Zahid Hussain said that the city's law and order situation was much better now and the police and Rangers are playing their due role in providing better working environment to the general public. KATI President Rashid Ahmed Siddiqui said that Korangi Industrial Area contributed Rs 300 million to the national exchequer. He said that law and order situation in Korangi Industrial Area was much better as compared to other industrial zones of the city.
