At least 16 persons were killed and eight others injured when a passenger van plunged into a deep gorge here on Tuesday. Rescue sources said the accident took place in Chotial area of Abbaspur in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) where a passenger van coming from Forward Kahuta skidded off road due to over-speeding and fell in hundreds of feet deep ravine.
As a result of accident, 16 people died on the spot while eight others sustained wounds. Police, rescue teams and local people reached the scene and started rescue activities. The bodies and injured were moved to Rural Health Centre Abbaspur where according to medics condition of five wounded people was serious and it was feared that death toll could rise further.
