Amid deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi, industrialists of the city have formed 'Voice of Karachi Industrialists' and demanded imposition of emergency in industrial estates of the city.
Addressing a joint press conference here at Karachi Press Club, Mehtab Uddin Chawla, Chairman Voice of Karachi Industrialists' core committee, Javed Ali Ghouri, Chairman of SITE Super Highway Association of Industry, Shaikh Mohammad Tahseen, Chairman Federal B Area Association of Tirade and Industry, Mehmood Rangoonwala, Chairman North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry, Yousuf Yaqoob, Vice Chairman Site Association of Industry and Shaheen Ilyas, former Vice President FPCCI, demanded that honest and hardworking officials of Rangers and police be posted in industrial areas of the city to control law and order.
While raising alarms over increasing lawlessness and unchecked activities of extortion mafia and their patronage by certain influential people, they said that the entire industrial activities would come to a halt if criminals were not apprehended. Appealing to the federal and Sindh governments to step in, they warned that they would stop paying taxes if the government did not eradicate the bhatta mafia.
They said that during last few days several industrialists were kidnapped for ransom and they were released after payment of million of rupees. They said that more than 10 incident of kidnapping for ransom were lodged and now the industrialists feel there is no use of lodging report with police. They also demanded that the provincial government should call Sindh Assembly session every week and discuss law and order situation in presence of all stakeholders. They further demanded that all SIMs should be closed and reissue after through verification.
