It is my pleasure and honour to congratulate the nation on the 16th Anniversary of Youm-e-Takbeer 28th May 1998, the day when Allah Almighty blessed Pakistani Nation in making its defence impregnable.
The prime credit goes to the Pakistani nation which stood behind this programme and made the resources available for it. The people of Pakistan helped forge a consensus in this regard. The next in this line of appreciation are the scientists, engineers and technicians belonging to strategic organisations who by virtue of their knowledge, determination and hard work made this happen. This was not an easy task at all. Limited resources and international embargoes on technology were apparently insurmountable obstacles.
I assure the nation that we have a strong defence against any aggression. Our nuclear assets that are guarantee of our national security are in the safe hands and the same fact has been expressed and reiterated by numerous international institutions. Pakistan is a responsible nation and is playing a vibrant role in the comity of nations. Let me state on this occasion that our nuclear capability should not be a point of concern for anyone as it is only for peaceful purpose and for the welfare of our people.
Pakistan is co-operating with international organisations for peaceful uses of nuclear technology for the benefit of mankind. Pakistan has already expressed its willingness to provide this assistance and know-how under the aegis of IAEA in various aspects of peaceful application of nuclear technology to any country needing the same. We have expressed this resolve at many international fora.
Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, as we all know, is using nuclear technology for the socio-economic uplift of the country in sectors like medicine, agriculture and energy. Nuclear Power offers unique advantages. We intend to use this option of power production along with other available options. Pakistan is running three nuclear power plants, two more are under construction and in the recent past, ground breaking of another two nuclear power plants has been carried out in Karachi. Planning for construction of many more nuclear power plants is also underway.
This 16th Anniversary of Youm-e-Takbeer is a day of celebration and thankfulness. Almighty has blessed us with the means to safeguard this land and live with dignity. Our intentions are noble and I pray that our resolve remains undeterred.
