Wheat procurement, law and order: Governor to discuss issues with PM, CM

LAHORE: Governor Punjab Saleem Haider Khan said on Wednesday that he is going to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz this week.

During meeting with the Chief Minister Punjab, there will be discussions regarding the problems of Punjab, their solution and law and order situation.

Talking to media informally today (Wednesday), the governor said that farmers’ problems and wheat procurement issue will also be discussed with the Chief Minister. Along with this, the development work in Punjab would also be discussed, he added.

He said he had a telephonic contact with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who congratulated him on becoming the Governor of Punjab.

Earlier, addressing the National Labour Conference as chief guest held at a local hotel, the governor said that the People’s Party has always been a strong voice for the rights and welfare of workers. He said that 25th May, 1990 was a historic day when Shaheed Benazir Bhutto laid the foundation of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) Pakistan along with former German Prime Minister Willy Brandt at the Prime Minister House.

He said that he was thankful to the leadership of Pakistan Peoples party leadership especially President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, Chairman Bilal Bhutto Zardari who reposed their confidence in a worker like him.

The conference organized by Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung was attended by country director (FES) Dr Al-Mut Karimi, country Programme Advisor Abdullah Dayo, Chairman Sindh Human Rights Commission Iqbal Ahmad Dithu, Sagheer Bukhari, senior labour union leader, Khalid Mahmood and a large number of labour leaders.

The governor said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto restored all the rights of the workers which were usurped by a dictator. He said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto made tireless efforts to provide maximum employment opportunities to the poor class and provided jobs.
