KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take notice of a ‘conspiracy’ by the Pakistan People Party (PPP) government in Sindh to hold local bodies elections in two steps, and ensure that the polls are held across Karachi on October 23.

The JI leader made the demand while talking to the media during his visit to several union councils of Liaquatabad Town and addressing a women convention in Gulberg Town, here on Sunday.

He said that the PPP government wants to hold the local bodies’ elections in two steps in order to obtain results of its own choice, and any such attempt is totally unacceptable.

Engr Naeemur Rehman said that the future of Karachi belongs to the JI. He added that the JI’s local government had put the megacity on the voyage of progress and development in the past. The tenures of Nematullah Khan and Abdul Sattar Afghani were corruption-free.

He said that as the JI has both honesty and capability so the megacity had made great progress under the rule of the JI’s local governments.

He recalled that record number of educational institutes, health facilities, roads and other projects were launched during tenures of mayor Nematullah Khan and Abdul Sattar Afghani.

JI Karachi chief urged the masses to vote for “scale” on October 23rd. He expressed hope that the JI would form the next local government and bring back the lost glory of the city of lights.

On the occasion, he lambasted the PPP government over skyrocketing street crime in the megacity and a ‘discrimination’ against Karachiites.

He also highlighted the miseries of the citizens and demanded of the government to provide due share to Karachi youth in public sector jobs.

He also said that the JI has already launched a ‘Bano Qabil Project’ to equip the youth in the city with skills. He announced that an entry test in this regard will be held on October 19.

He directed his party workers to approach each and every voter, asking them to vote for the JI for the sake of Karachi’s future.
