KARACHI: Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) organised a round table meeting with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minister of Finance and Health Taimur Khan Jhagra and business and industry leaders of Karachi at a local hotel in. The meeting followed soon after a gong ceremony was held at PSX trading hall to mark the inauguration of PSX regional office in KP.

The participants included, apart from the KP Minister of Finance, Special Assistant to Chief Minister KP on Industry and Finance, Abdul Karim Khan; Lead KP PSX Initiatives, Maleeha Bangash; Bank of Khyber MD and CEO, Mohammad Ali Gulfaraz; KP Board of Investment and Trade CEO, Hassan Butt; PSX Chairperson, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar; PSX board members; PSX CEO Farrukh H. Khan; leading PSX members; top industrialists, businessmen, market participants and stakeholders.

The meeting was convened to bring industry leaders, leading businesspersons and market participants together with the senior representatives of KP Government so as to network and discuss the prospects of investment, expanding industry, logistics, trade and business in the north-western province and the far flung north-western parts of the country. Queries, suggestions, and points made by industry leaders and businesspersons were addressed by the KP Minister and the KP Board of Investment CEO, amongst others.

Welcoming the guests, MD PSX Farrukh Khan said: “The fact that we have such a senior team from the Pakhtunkhwa government coming to Karachi and meeting investors and business groups shows their seriousness and focus on the private sector as the engine of growth”, he said. As the third largest province of Pakistan contributing 10 percent to Pakistan’s GDP and 20 percent to the country’s mining output, KPK has a diverse economy, ranging from forestry to agriculture to large scale manufacturing and tourism, and is a thriving part of Pakistan, providing excellent opportunities for investors and businesses, he added.

Speaking at the occasion, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister of Finance and Health, Taimur Jhagra said recent developments taking place and incentives given by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government provide an attractive avenue for investment and initiating or expanding trading, business, or industrial activities in the province. He invited all stakeholders present to come to Khyber Pakhtunwa to have a first-hand on-ground look at the possibilities and opportunities for progress there and take part in the growth story of the economy of KPK.

In her closing remarks,

Maleeha Bangash thanked all the participants of the meeting for presenting their useful points of discussion with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister of Finance and his team. She said this was a fantastic opportunity to explore business opportunities in Pakhtunkhwa province. She hoped that this meeting would mark the commencement of partnerships that will show true results and material implementation of the decisions taken in the meeting into concrete activity on the ground.
