KARACHI: Senior judge of Lahore High Court, Justice Ayesha Malik on Saturday underlined the need to change mindsets within the judiciary and the bar to make the legal profession more inclusive for women.

She was addressing a seminar on “Redressing Gender Imbalance at the Bench and the Bar”, organized by Sindh High Court Bar Association.

She also stressed the need to ensure gender sensitisation and to eliminate sexual harassment from the profession.

Former Justice Majida Rizvi also spoke on the occasion and narrated the difficulties she had faced being the first woman to be appointed as a High Court judge in Pakistan.

She said it was important for women in the legal profession to preserve and keep a positive attitude no matter the difficulties they faced.

Barrister Zahrah Vayani of the Women’s Lawyers Association stressed the need for greater representation for women in bar councils and associations.

Salahuddin Ahmed and Omer Soomro, the President and Secretary of the Sindh High Court Bar Association also spoke on the occasion and emphasised the need for legislative and judicial reforms to encourage more women to join the legal profession.
