ISLAMABAD: The moon for the month of Shawwal 1442 was sighted on Wednesday evening and Eidul Fitr will be celebrated today (Thursday).
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s (RHC’s) meeting to sight the Shawwal moon was held in Islamabad, but due to cloudy weather at the telescopes observation sites, the new crescent moon of Shawwal was not sighted from federal capital
However, the committee which met here with its chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad – after detailed deliberations – took the decision to celebrated Eid in light of 189 testimonies that it received from different parts of the country, particularly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Announcing the sighting of Shawwal moon, Maulana Azad said: “we received testimonies from Chaman, Killa Saifullah, Peshawar, Mirpur, etc. So it was unanimously decided that Eid will be celebrated on May 13, 2021”.
He added: “Let’s keep this spirit of moving forward and celebrating Eids together.”
He said that after 20 years the nation will celebrate Eid together. He also prayed for the Muslims of Palestine and unity of the Muslim world.
He called upon the masses to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) put forth by National Command Operations Centre (NCOC) to avoid the spread of Covid-19 on the occasion of Eid.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and the Meteorological Department.
Meetings of Zonal Ruet Hilal Committees were also held in Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar.
