KARACHI: In order to express solidarity with the bereaved families of Sunday’s Mach tragedy victims from Shia Hazara community, protest demonstrations and sit-ins continued at parts of Karachi on the second consecutive day on Wednesday.

The protesters urged the PTI-led federal government to ensure protection of public life, and arrest the culprits involved in the cold-blooded murders, and bring them to justice, with an immediate effect.

The protesters mainly from Hazara community, backed by Shia representative organisations including Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) and the civil society have staged sit-ins at various city locations including Old Numaish Chowrangi, FB Area, Abul Hassan Isphani Road, Abbas Town, Power House, Nagan Churangi, Kamram Chowrangi, Safari Park, Colony Gate, Shah Faisal Colony, NIPA Chowrangi, and Airport Road near Star gate, Malir 15, and National Highway, where a large number of protesters including women and children were protesting till filing of the report.

The protests and road blockades also caused traffic jams on roads, and severe hardships for the citizens to make their ways.

MWM Sindh Secretary General Allama Baqir Abbas Zaidi while addressing the participants said that the protest would continue till the governments accept the demands of the victims’ families. “The state has to play its role,” he said. The government should not consider our patriotism, abidance of law and peacefulness as our weakness. The longer the PM would take time to visit Quetta, the greater the protests would be.

He also requested the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo motu notice of the terrorist assault and continued genocide of the Shia Hazara community.

As per details, 11 miners were killed before dawn on Sunday after being ambushed while they were asleep near a remote coal mine in a mountainous area nearly 60 kilometres southeast of Quetta.

Prime Minister Khan has vowed that the government will not abandon the people affected by the massacre. The protesters blamed the government and the law enforcement agencies for their failure in protecting the lives of innocent people and take actions against the banned militant organisations in the country who they said continue to carry out such inhumane assaults with impunity for the last many years. The Hazara community has been a soft target of the terrorists, they said.

The protesters also expressed disenchantment over the Prime Minister Imran Khan for not paying visit to Quetta to speak to the families of the victims and the protesters.

On Sunday, hundreds of Hazara community members had thronged to the Karachi Press Club, demanding the PM and the Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa to ensure safety of their community saying they are now tired enough to shoulder the coffins of their loved ones.
