ISLAMABAD The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) on Wednesday informed a parliamentary panel that 1310 megawatt electricity will be produced from Mangla Dam by July 2021.

The meeting of the Special Committee of the National Assembly on Government Assurances which met here with Malik Muhammad Amir Dogar was given a briefing by the Wapda officials.

The committee was informed that there are 10 units in Mangla Dam, which have the producing capacity of 1000 megawatt.

Besides, they said that due to uprising of Mangla Dam, now 1310 megawatt electricity will be started to be produced by July 2021.

The committee was apprised that only two units were closed for maintenance and up-gradation, whereas, the other eight units remained operative, which was a unique example in history.

The committee was informed that presently eight units were producing 950 megawatt of electricity.

The committee was also told that there were 25 toll plazas situated between Karachi and Islamabad.

It is very difficult for the public to pay toll tax at 25 points, the committee was told.

The committee recommended that toll tax be collected on motorways and other highways at one point of exit between Karachi and Islamabad.

Besides, the committee recommended that a software may be developed in this regard, and report may be submitted to the National Assembly in its next session.

The panel was informed that the Pakistan Television Corporation, the Radio Pakistan, and Pakistan Post had not paid honoraria to their employees who served during the Budget Sessions 2018-19 and 2019-20.

The committee recommended that honoraria be paid forthwith and report back to the committee by next meeting.
