ISLAMABAD: There are clear indications, based on the number of cases and data collected, that coronavirus cases are increasing, signalling spread of second wave of Covid-19 in the country, and it was proposed to the government that measures should be taken to limit all the unnecessary activities including public gatherings.

A meeting of the National Coordination Committee (NCC) on Covid-19 chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday was informed about the number of cases in the country as well as those who had recovered, and the overall situation of coronavirus in the country, the number of tests and increase of coronavirus cases in various parts of the country.

The meeting was informed that globally, as a result of the second wave of coronavirus; the number of affected people had been on the rise. The meeting was informed that in Karachi, the federal capital as well as in the AJK "smart lockdown" had been enforced in corona-affected areas.

The meeting was presented with various proposals to ensure protection of the people from the second wave of coronavirus, that steps should be taken to limit all the unnecessary activities, which do not have link with the economy, education and basic needs.

A proposal was presented to limit public gatherings as well. The prime minister, while addressing that meeting said that the purpose of the meeting was to take timely decisions to protect the people from the second wave of coronavirus in the country, and statistics of different countries indicate that in the winter, the danger of the spread of coronavirus increases, and said that he wanted that the federal and provincial governments needed to take measures, and adopt a strategy.

The prime minister wanted that wearing of masks should be ensured. The meeting was informed that Pakistan was much less affected by the coronavirus due to the strategy adopted by the government as compared to the other countries.
