ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Saturday discussed the "action plan" of the anti-government movement from the platform of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), including the option of resignations to oust the government.
According to the JUI-F sources, the maulana telephoned the former premier, Nawaz Sharif, to discuss the political situation of the country in the wake of the recently held multi-party conference.
They said that the two leaders discussed the formation of a committee for finalising recommendation with regards to resignations from the assemblies, and on leadership of the opposition's new alliance, the PDM.
Moreover, they added that the two leaders also talked about devising a future strategy against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government.
Meanwhile, the JUI-F under the leadership of Fazl held a consultative party meeting to discuss political situation. The meeting expressed serious reservations over the National Accountability Bureau's (NAB's) "sudden activeness" against the party leadership, and condemned Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed's anti-opposition statements.
During the party meeting, the maulana informed the JUI-F leaders about his telephonic conversation with the PML-N Quaid, Nawaz Sharif, and Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.
Meanwhile, former prime minister and the PML-N Quaid, Nawaz Sharif, took to Twitter on Saturday, and alleged that the government, while "punishing" him has "drowned" the country instead.
"This is the reality of the accountability through which your three-time elected prime minister was avenged, sentenced and declared absconder. While punishing me, [they] drowned the country. We will not allow this country to become a 'laughing stock' anymore," Nawaz maintained in a tweet.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari nominated former prime ministers Yousuf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to represent the PPP in the PDM committee.
According to a statement, the Committee will steer and recommend the line of action and strategy back to the PDM leadership including holding protests, rallies, and an organised national structure of the PDM, which was announced at the All Parties Conference hosted by the PPP in Islamabad on Sunday last.
Meanwhile, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has sought record of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's bank account, property and vehicle from the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), and the Excise and Taxation Department as per directions of the Accountability Court in the Toshakhana reference.
The Accountability Court on September 9, while hearing the case, had declared Sharif a proclaimed offender for failing to appear before the court, despite being summoned multiple times.
The court also ordered the NAB to submit details of movable and immoveble properties.
The NAB had nominated Zardari, two former prime ministers, Nawaz Sharif and Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, and others in the Toshakhana reference.
Sources said the NAB Rawalpindi had written to the LDA, the deputy commissioner of Lahore, the Excise and Taxation Department, and private banks for provision of details of Sharif's properties and accounts.
The NAB had filed the Toshakhana reference against Zardari, Sharif, Gilani, and others, for allegedly acquiring vehicles and gifts from Toshakhana in violation of rules and regulations.
