Power shortfall has crossed 4000MW against 3000MW a day earlier amidst highly humid weather due to rains in upper Punjab, leaving the consumers into a terrible state of affairs altogether. According to the Energy Management Cell, demand for power remained 17174MW against a supply of 13109MW in the system. Accordingly, the power shortfall was recorded at 4065MW during last 24 hours.
Resultantly, power cut offs after every alternate hour is a routine matter in a business city like Lahore. Situation is quite worst in other urban areas and rural areas are facing height of ignorance in the hands of power management. Power shortfall in rural areas has crossed 20 hours a day.
The consumers are more offended with the situation because of the rising level of humidity with the advent of monsoon season. A complete absence of breeze has added salt to injury and many are witnessed as fainted due to high temperature and humidity.
The Federal Cabinet has decided on Wednesday to ensure equal load shedding to all the four provinces, a longstanding demand of Chief Minister Punjab. This decision, if implemented, would bring a relief to the consumers in Punjab where they are forced to face the hardest summer due to long hours duration of load shedding.
