KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar on Thursday said when someone talked about new provinces in Sindh, Pakistan People's Party termed it division of 'Dharti Maa' but now it is dividing Karachi in further districts. "Seventh District is being formed for further destruction of Karachi. Sindh government is doing this for its political gain but we will approach the court against this act. We want administrative unit in Sindh for resolving issues of Urban areas," Akhtar said while reacting to Sindh cabinet's decision to form the seventh district in Karachi.

While taking to the media after inaugurating works for construction of Allama Shabbir Ahmed Usmani Road and Olympian Islah uddin Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal here, the Mayor said Sindh government is sabotaging committees formed for Karachi issues at federal level. Chairman District East Moeed Anwar, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation's Works Committee Chairman Hassan Naqvi and others were also present on the occasion.

The Mayor was of the view that Karachi's mandate is with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan but it was not consulted by the provincial government on the issue. "Sindh government also thinks about its political gains by keeping public issues aside," he said.

He said Karachiites are suffering for last 12 years as injustice being done with the port city. The Mayor said the time has come to resolve these issues with collective efforts which will eventually benefit Pakistan as Karachi is the economic engine of the country.

He said that there was issues of sewerage and roads in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, adding that sewerage system would also be fixed and roads would be widened. Besides, encroachment would also be removed.
