ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's coronavirus tally has reached 268,537 with 5,696 deaths, and 210,468 recoveries, according to the data released by federal and provincial authorities on Wednesday.
With 372 new cases, total coronavirus cases in Punjab has reached 90,816, Sindh reported 1,109 new cases, which took the provincial tally to 115,213, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) reported 280 new Covid-19 cases, and took the provincial total to 32,523, while Balochistan reported 28 new cases, taking the provincial total to 11,4469.
The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) reported 76 new Covid-19 cases, which took the ICT total to 14,701, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) reported 24 new Covid-19 cases taking the tally to 1,961, and Gilgit-Baltistan reported 10 additional coronavirus cases, which took the provincial tally to 1,878.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab reported 372 coronavirus cases and five additional fatalities, which took the provincial tally of cases to 90,816, while the total number of fatalities has risen to 2,095, which is the highest number of deaths among the federating units of Pakistan.
According to the database, 66,425 people have recovered from the virus so far.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that 1,109 coronavirus cases and 19 deaths were reported in the province during the past 24 hours.
In a statement, he said 10,108 tests were carried out during this period.
With the new cases, the provincial total has risen to 115,213, while the death toll is 2,060. He added that 16,927 patients were currently under treatment.
KP Health Department has confirmed 280 new cases taking the total to 32,523, while six more lives were lost taking the total to 1,153, and 215 more patients have recovered taking the total to 25,582.
Total active cases in KP stand at 5,788, the health department said.
Islamabad has reported 76 new cases of the coronavirus, taking its total to 14,701, according to the government's Covid-19 portal.
The Azad Jammu and Kashmir has recorded 24 new cases, while Gilgit-Baltistan has confirmed 10, taking their tallies to 1,961 and 1,878, respectively.
Islamabad has also reported one more death, while the GB has recorded two additional fatalities from the virus.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health has appreciated Punjab government's efforts in dealing with the coronavirus.
"Commendable work by Punjab resulting in decline in cases and positivity: 2,705 cases on 13 June to 372 yesterday (85% decline). Positivity declined from 25% on 9th June to 5% yesterday. Challenge is not over. Eidul Adha needs redoubled commitment by all of us", he tweeted.
Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar has commended the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for achieving target of providing 2,000 oxygen beds to hospitals across the county before time.
"The federal government had decided to ensure availability of 1,000 oxygen beds by end June, while 2,000 beds by end of July especially for corona patients in critical health," Asad Umar who also heads the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) for COVID-19 said in a tweet.
Expressing satisfaction over the performance of the NDMA in this regard, he said by now 2,277 beds had been made available in various hospitals across the country and more work was in progress.
Meanwhile, in another tweet, the minister said that during previous four months, an amount of Rs194 billion had been distributed among 169 million families under Ehsaas Programme.
He said this happened for the first time in history of Pakistan as one out of two families in the country received cash relief.
