South Korea impose new restrictions on Pakistanis, after surge in imported coronavirus cases

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has became an economic nightmare especially for people working abroad, who are now facing stringent policy measures and threat of job losses.

The problem worsened for the Pakistani labor market working in South Korea after the country’s health authorities announced that it will limit the entry of foreigners from countries including Pakistan and Bangladesh, which has seen a rise in Covid-19 infections through a temporary restriction on flights and visa issuances.

As per details, the Korean authorities will restrict issuance of visas "as much as possible", and put a temporary ban on non-scheduled flights from countries where the virus is widely spreading, the Ministry of Health and Welfare said in a statement on Sunday.

It was learnt that the measures will be immediately take effect for visitors from Pakistan and Bangladesh, which account for some of the recent cases in South Korea, the statement said.

Over 180,000 cases of coronavirus infections have been reported in the country, with over 3,900 deaths recorded so far, as government and public struggle to come into terms with the new reality, despite implementation of SOPs and lockdown measures.
