Pakistani rice exporters plan to import Rice Braun Oil (RBO) plants and machinery from India. In this regard, Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (Reap) will send a delegation to India with the support of the government of Pakistan.
According to a press release issued here on Thursday, Reap has requested Tariq Iqbal Puri, Chief Executive of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to lead this delegation. During the visit, the delegation will discuss with Indian companies the possibilities to import 10 plants of RBO from India.
During the visit of President Asif Ali Zardari to Japan, Reap chairman Irfan Ahmed Sheikh along with Zafar Mahmood, federal commerce secretary and Tariq Iqbal Puri, CEO TDAP had meetings with leading Japanese companies, which were dealing in rice related bi-products, particularly Rice Braun Oil, the most expensive oil in the world. It had also come to the notice that some Indian companies are also dealing in the plants of RBO but importation of plants/machinery from India was banned in Pakistan.
On the recommendation of Chairman Reap and CEO TDAP, federal commerce secretary put the matter in the Federal Cabinet meeting and finally took approval in release ban on import of RBO plants from India. On the directives of President Asif Ali Zardari and Commerce Minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Reap has decided to send a delegation to India to discuss the matter with leading Indian companies.
On behalf of Reap, Irfan Ahmed Sheikh applauded the efforts of Zafar Mahmood, federal commerce secretary and Tariq Iqbal Puri, CEO of TDAP for their personal interest towards the value addition in the rice trade, which is one of the important sources of foreign exchange.-PR
