Chairman Punjab Board of Technical Education (PBT) Dr Muhammad Shafique has said that World Bank will give a soft loan of Rs 270 million to the PBT for the computerisation of the data, for the development of question and data bank and for starting the ISO certification course. He said this while briefing the Lahore Education Reporters on Thursday. Controller PBT Tariq Malik and Secretary PBT Amanullah Chaudhry were also present on the occasion.
He said that they are working with Technical and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA). Shafique said that around 200,000 students appear annually in the examination taken by PBT. He said that the annual budget of PBT is Rs 340 million and the board meets its expenses on its own. He also said that the board would take examinations of 39 technologies and every technology has 32 courses. Shafique said that 22 marking centres were established by the board all over the Punjab annually for marking.
He said that examination and evaluation body should be transparent. "Pakistan 's cherished vision to become super power can only be attained by its large high quality human power. The educational institutions especially those imparting technical education have to take the responsibility of developing and nurturing the world class engineers, technologists and managers," he said. He said that the global economic order, the rapid rate of technological advancement, the information revolution, all have opened new series of challenges as well as opportunities.
