The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, President, Muhammad Ijaz Abbasi has said that shopkeepers should be allowed to close shops on Friday or Sunday, because the influx of customers varies due to the location of markets at various places.
Addressing a meeting, he said that government should show flexibility by allowing the shopkeepers to close markets ether on Friday or Sunday, because at some places inflow of customers is totally zero on Sundays.
Abbasi said that the business community is ready to support government's programme for the conservation of energy by adopting a number of measures but at the same time, government should also consider the problems of the business community, which is already under immense pressure.
Abbasi suggested that unnecessary lights in the markets, parks, highways, streets, housing and commercial projects and recreation places should remain switched off and the saved electricity must be supplied to the industrial units, so that they can meet the production targets. He said that international business community is closely watching the energy crisis in Pakistan and it has become a source of discouragement for them to make investment in the country.
