Pakistan's Ambassador to China Salman Bashir arrived here on Friday to take up his new assignment as Foreign Secretary. He will formally assume his new responsibilities on Saturday, replacing Riaz Muhammad Khan. On his arrival at Islamabad Airport, he was received by the senior officials of the Foreign Ministry.
In a brief chat with APP, Salman Bashir expressed his resolve not only to match the expectations of the government and people but also fulfil the confidence reposed in him to serve the national interests and to build a better national image abroad. He said, he truly feels that Foreign Service and the foreign missions abroad are great national asset.
He said he was looking forward to make the role of Foreign Service more effective and viable to promote national interests. He said that Pakistan foreign policy should focus on how to contribute towards socio-economic prosperity of the country.
Salman Bashir said, "I feel it my great honour to return home in the capacity of Foreign Secretary of Pakistan. I pray and wish that Allah Almighty guide me and help me to fulfil my responsibilities in promoting the role of Foreign Service in the best national interests."
