imageISLAMABAD,: The petroleum production during the first quarter of current fiscal year (Jul-Sept 2016-17) witnessed decrease of 1.71 percent compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The products that contributed in positive growth of petroleum included jet fuel oil, production of which grew by 7.55 percent during July-September compared to the production of same period of the year 2015-16, according to the latest data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The other products that witnessed increase in production included motor spirit, out put of which increased by 2.10 per cent while the production of High Speed Diesel also witnessed a slight increase of 0.01 per cent.

The production of Furnance oil increased by 0.31 per cent, lubricating oil by 1.53 per cent and LPG increased by 12 per cent in the first quarter of fiscal year 2016-17 as compared to same period of last year.

The products that witnessed negative growth in production during the period under review included kerosene oil, output of which declined by 40.66 percent.

Similarly the production of diesel oil n.o.s. jute batching oil and solvant naptha decreased by 64.05 per cent, 35.14 percent and 18.83 percent respectively.

It is pertinent to mention here that the country's large scale manufacturing industries (LSMI) sector has witnessed growth of 2.20 per cent during first quarter (July-September) of current fiscal year as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The Quantum Index Numbers (QIM) of large scale manufacturing industries was recorded at 123.32 points during July-September (2016-17) against 120.66 points during same period of last year.

The highest growth of 1.28 percent was witnessed in the indices monitored by Provincial Bureaus of Statistics (PBOS) followed by 1.04 per cent increase in indices of Ministry of Industries while the indices of Oil Companies Advisory Committee (OCAC) witnessed nominal decrease of 0.12 per cent.

On monthly basis the industrial growth in September, however declined by 1.83 per cent as compared to that of August while on yearly basis the growth increased by 1.90 per cent compared to September 2015.
