A meeting of Punjab University Deans Committee and senior police officials held under the chair of the Punjab University vice-chancellor Lieutenant General Arshad Mahmood (Retd) here on Thursday.
Professor Dr Arif Butt, Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology; Professor Dr Dil Muhammad Malik, Dean Faculty of Law; Professor Dr Muhammad Akram Chaudhry, Dean Faculty of Oriental Learning; Professor Dr Zafar Iqbal Jadoon, Dean Faculty of Economics & Management Sciences; Professor Dr Liaqat Ali, Dean Faculty of Commerce; Professor Dr Samar Fatima, Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies; Professor Dr Shahida Husnain, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences; Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran, Dean Faculty of Science; Professor Dr Muhammad Jamshaid, Dean Faculty of Pharmacy and Professor Dr Nayyar Raza Zaidi, Dean Faculty of Education; Dr Mughees ud Din Sheikh, Dean Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences, Professor Dr Shaista Sonnu Siraj ud Din, Dean Faculty of Art and Humanities; Khalid Farooq, Additional IG police; Amir Zulfiqar Cheema, Additional DIG and Imran Arshad SP Sadar participated in the meeting.
The arrangements of Book and IT Fair were analysed in the meeting.
It was decided that no one would be allowed to disrupt the PU Book and IT Fair and writ of the university would be established by taking all necessary measures.
Strict action would be taken against the students who violated the university discipline.
Later on, vice-chancellor visited various stalls of Book and IT Fair and interacted with the publishers and booksellers.
He issued directions on various problems and issues identified by the booksellers.
He said that more facilities would be provided to the booksellers / publishers who were participating in the fair. On the instructions of VC, the booksellers and publishers decided to sell the books on 50 per cent discount.
More than 40 booksellers and publishers accused Islami Jamiat Talba of charging money from them as book fair fee.
The VC condemned that act and said strict action would be taken in that regard as PU had decided to provide all facilities free of cost.
Punjab Governor Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) and Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in their telephonic conversation with the vice-chancellor also appreciated the university for holding its first-ever huge 'Book and IT Fair' through its Deans' Committee.
The committee condemned the use of filthy language by IJT activists and outsiders brought by the IJT, their manhandling and misbehaviour with senior faculty members and female students.
The committee condemned the disgraceful action of IJT activists who created obstruction and insecurity for the booksellers participating in the Book and IT Fair.
