With a view to streamline and enhance facilities in the educational institutions of the province, the government is working on a dynamic policy. Punjab Education Minister, Mian Imran Masood, stated this while addressing the concluding ceremony of the IInd Mathematical Olympiad held at the GC University, here on Monday.
The government is focusing on provision of quality education to the students to help achieve high standards of education, he said. Appreciating the students of GC University for attaining maximum positions in the inter exam, he said the government has started 'Punjab Education Sector Reforms Programme' under which billions of rupees are being spent for the renovation and up-gradation of the 40,000 schools in the province. He also lauded the performance of the School of Mathematical Sciences (SMS) for carrying out quality research work and advanced studies in mathematics.
Vice-chancellor GC University Professor Dr Khalid Aftab said on this occasion that GC University by following the legacy of its splendid history has always tried to introduce and promote high-class quality education.
He said that mathematics involves imagination, creativity and beauty beyond all limits. 'We are especially thankful to the government of Punjab and higher education commission for supporting the development plans of the GC University', he added.
Director General School of Mathematical Sciences Professor Dr A.D. Raza Choudary said on this occasion that there are 53 enrolled Ph.D. students at SMS. He said that the IInd Mathematical Olympiad Camp at SMS would help students of mathematics to enhance their capacity building in the subject.
Later, the minister gave away certificates to the participants, who were selected from different private and public sector institutions of all the four provinces for their training in mathematics at SMS. Only six students would be finally selected for the world mathematical contest to be held next year. This year six students participated in the International Mathematical Olympiad 2005 held at Mexico. This was the first presentation of the Pakistani students in world-class competition for the first time in the history of Pakistan.
