Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has reiterated his determination to stamp out corruption from government departments, particularly from irrigation department, who are responsible for deterioration of irrigation network that adversely affected the development of agriculture sector in the province.
Dr Arbab, who was on a whirlwind tour of Badin, Tando Muhammad Khan districts and Tando Jam, was addressing open kutcheries at various places.
He said the present government was spending billions of rupees to modernise entire irrigation network and make the infrastructure stronger to bring the province on the road of prosperity.
Responding to complaints raised by small and tail-end growers during the open meetings, the CM held out an assurance that the water supply would be ensured to tail-end growers for which watercourses were being streamlined.
He categorically announced that no retired officer would be granted extension in service while corrupt and inept government officials would be sent packing.
The Chief Minister said soon after the completion of local bodies elections more job opportunities would be provided to educated and deserving youth while dedicated and hardworking government functionaries would be encouraged and rewarded.
The government was fully aware that the palatial residents in civil lines and defence were not owned by waderas but by high officials of irrigation and other government departments and they would be made accountable for their assets.
He said that with the peaceful completion of first phase of the local body election the fear created by vested interest of blood bath on polling day had proved hoax. Now people were free to elect sincere and honest people, who can work above self to resolve the problems of people of their respective areas.
He said clear victory of panels of Khushhal Pakistan, Haq Parast, Faqir dost and other allied groups had wiped out the so-called claimants of Sindh Province.
Meanwhile, electioneering campaign for the second phase of LB election, scheduled to be held on August 25 has gained momentum in Badin, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Matiari, Dadu, Nawabshah, Sukkur, Kamber, Shahdadkot Larkana districts where old political rivals are engaged in trading allegations and visiting door-to-door.
There are reports that some of the opposition candidates succeeded in manoeuvring the support of other ruling party allied group leaders.
