South Asian Policy Analysis Network (Sapana), a discussion group of South Asian Free Media Association, would hold a seminar on local government on Sunday July 31. According to a Sapana's spokesman here on Saturday, United Nations Development Programme's Senior Adviser Dr Paul Oquist and political analyst Dr Hasan Askari Rizvi would read their papers in the seminar titled 'Whither local government'.
Former Lahore Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood, former Karachi Nazim Niamatullah Khan, former Mandi Bahauddin Nazim Nazar Gondal, former Nazim of Kohat Asad Malik, former Speaker of the National Assembly Syed Fakhar Imam and National Reconstruction Bureau Chairman Danyal Aziz would discuss various aspects of the local government.
He said that new local government elections were being held from August 18 in three phases. "Against this backdrop, the seminar would analyse how much the four-year old system has been able to achieve," he said.
According to him, Sapana was an interactive network of experts coming together to form a non-partisan, South Asia-wide research and policy analysis network. Sapana was expected to play an influential role in guiding discussion, analysis and policy both in South Asia and outside the region.
