Tanzeem Wifaq-ul-Madaris has strongly reacted to the presidential order for foreign students in seminaries to leave Pakistan, describing it unethical, unlawful and immoral. Qari Muhammad Hanif, Secretary-General of Wifaq-ul-Madariss Arabia Pakistan, which represents 8000 registered religious seminaries of 'Deobandi' school of thought in Pakistan, said.
"Foreigners are studying Islamic curricula in Pakistan and they are not involved in any subversive or terrorist activity, and we condemn the presidential order to expel foreigners from Pakistan studying in seminaries as it is illogical, immoral and un-Islamic."
Addressing a hurriedly called press conference here on Saturday, Hanif said that General Pervez Musharraf has provided an excuse to other countries to expel Pakistani students studying in different educational institutions of the world including Jamia Al-Azhar, Egypt, Saudi-Arabia, Iran, Iraq etc.
He said that a meeting of all the five Wifaq-ul-Madariss was being convened to discuss the situation arising after issuing of orders for forced registration and expulsion of foreign students studying in seminaries and then a joint strategy would be announced to tackle the situation.
He said, "Foreign students are frustrated and disappointed since they had listened the presidential orders because their academic year is to be over next month. They are asking why the Government of Pakistan is expelling them from the country when they are strictly abiding by the local laws and their Governments had already issued NOC?"
MMA leaders also vehemently condemned the steps taken by the President to please the United States only.
Mufti Hidayatullah Pasroori said,"Religious institutions are providing free education with boarding & lodging facilities to the poor people and these are playing a key role in reducing illiteracy but anti-Muslim forces want to close them down because these are a terror for other religions."
Zafar Iqbal of Jamaat-i-Islami said ,"General Pervez Musharraf wants to make Pakistan a secular state, negating the basic theme of Pakistan which came into existence in the name of Islam, and we would resist his policies and steps."
