Hundreds of candidates aspiring to contest forthcoming local bodies elections collected nomination papers from returning officers (ROs) here on Saturday. The election commission of Pakistan (ECP) has nominated 32 ROs for receiving nomination papers from candidates in the city of Lahore.
The ROs will receive nomination papers from July 25 to 27, while the publication of notice of nominations will be made on July 28. The ECP has fixed July 29 for filing of objections by the voters, while scrutiny will be held on July 30 and 31. August 01 is fixed for filing of appeals, which will be disposed of by August 03.
The candidates can withdraw their nomination papers on August 04, while the final list of candidates will be issued on August 05, 2005. The polling for the second phase will be held on August 25, 2005.
Under the second phase, elections will be held in the 18 districts of Punjab, 12 districts of Sindh, 12 districts of NWFP and 14 districts of Balochistan.
In Punjab, elections will be held in Rawalpindi City district, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Faisalabad City district, Jhang, T.T. Singh, Hafizabad, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, Okara and Lahore City district.
In the first phase, 77,341 candidates submitted their nomination papers in 1,654 union councils and election commission collected about Rs 184 million as nomination fee.
In these union councils 5,726 candidates submitted their nomination papers for election of Nazim and 15,681 women submitted their nomination papers on different seats.
