There is great potential for increased co-operation between Pakistan and Malaysia, and Pakistan can benefit from the rich Malaysian experience in housing, tourism, health, infrastructure development, tourism and oil and gas sectors.
These views were expressed by Punjab Governor Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd), while talking to Malaysian parliamentary delegation which headed by the Malaysian Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sri Di Raja Ramli Bin Nagh Talib, called on him at the Governor's House here on Saturday.
The governor said that enhanced Malaysian investment in aforementioned sectors would be mutually beneficial to both countries.
He said the ongoing co-operation with Pakistan in the field of power, telecommunication, construction, and oil and gas can be enhanced to the education sector by establishing linkages among universities of the two countries. This would help provide an opportunity to the students and the faculty to exchange educational material and share each other experiences in mutually beneficial fields, he added. The Punjab governor said this would not only enrich educational institutions of both countries, but would also become a platform to establish people-to-people contacts.
He said that Pakistan is following a policy of deregulation and privatisation coupled with provision of ideal conditions for foreign investment which has lent an impetus to foreign investment in the fields of power, telecommunication, oil and gas, and many other fields.
The head of Malaysian delegation said that both countries have a great potential of increased co-operation in the fields of trade and commerce, human resource exchange, tourism, and various other fields. He thanked the governor for extending an excellent hospitality to them during their tour to Lahore.
