The e-government plan in Sindh will help implement the projects expeditiously and minimise the menace of corruption. These views were expressed by Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad Khan while inaugurating the networking project at Sindh Secretariat Building No 1 under e-government project. Sindh Information and Technology Department has executed the project.
The governor said that Sindh IT department's e-government projects, aimed to connect the government machinery online, was a 'breakthrough' and would help in enhancing governance throughout the province.
It will computerise filing in offices to ensure transparency and soon the government machinery up to its grass-roots level would be made online in the province, he added.
The computerised system would help determine exact position of government files and documents as well as its time spent in one department and official's office, he said, adding that the project envisages local area networking (LAN) at Sindh secretariat building that helps establishing online connection between its different governmental departments.
Later, Dr Ishratul Ibad gave HP laser-jet printers to Education, Services and General Administration, Co-ordination, Health, Finance, Planning and Development Departments.
He inaugurated and inspected online connectivity facility and equipment's in Sindh secretariat.
Earlier, Sindh IT Minister Mustafa Kamal said that the project cost Rs 92 million and was accomplished in only one year. This will bring prominent change in government machinery, boosting its decision-making capability and efficiency to new heights, he added.
"This would also have a positive effect on the lives of common people in long time basis and complete activation of project would introduce paperless working system in government mechanism," he added.
Mustafa said that before this networking project, IT department trained up to 15,000 government employees in human resources development and distributed more than 200 computers with Rs 1,000 each who attended the course in different departments.
People from interior of Sindh visiting government offices in Karachi would be beneficiaries through e-government projects and receive relevant information in their hometowns by using online computer system, he said.
