VIENNA: World super-G champion Hannes Reichelt risks missing the start of the World Cup season after undergoing back surgery, the Austrian ski federation announced Sunday.
Reichelt's return to the pistes will depend on his rehabilitation, according to his doctor, Michael Gabl.
The 36-year-old Salzburg native had been complaining of back pain after his return from pre-season training in Chile.
The men's World Cup circuit kicks off on October 23 in Soelden, Austria, with the first speed events scheduled for the Canadian resort of Lake Louise at the end of November.
