Well-16 at Adhi Field, located in districts of Chakwal and Rawalpindi, has been declared productive, which will produce approximately 900 barrel oil and 7.5 mmcf gas per day, it is learnt reliably. According to tests conducted by experts so far, Well-16 has been found productive for presence of oil and gas reserves, official sources confirmed to Business Recorder on Wednesday.
It may be recalled that earlier the joint venture partners were not much hopeful about the discovery, as preliminary tests had indicated no presence of oil in the well.
The sources said, earlier gas and condensate flaring tests were conducted, which indicated that condensate gas existed in this field area but there was rare possibility of discovery of oil.
However, the tests, which were conducted by Schulumberg Pakistan a few days back, have proved presence of both oil and gas in the well at Adhi field, in Tobra formations.
The sources claimed that the Well-16 will be commissioned and put into regular production soon after the development work being conducted at Adhi field.
The spud-in work at Well-16 at Adhi field commenced last year and the contract for drilling of this well in Kheora and Tobra formations was awarded to Greatwall Drilling Co (GDC), a Chinese exploration firm, which has already done similar work at Well-13, Well-14 and Well-15 at Adhi field.
These wells were found potential for oil and gas production and Well-13 was put into regular production in 2003, while Well-14 and Well-15 in 2004.
Contracts for drilling of these wells were awarded to GDC, which completed the three projects at a cost of Rs 750 million each.
Adhi field is located in the districts of Rawalpindi and Chakwal and is a joint venture between Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL). With majority share holding, PPL is also the operator of the field.
